Psychoeducational / Cognitive Assessments

What Are Psychoeducational / Cognitive Assessments?
Psychoeducational/Cognitive Assessments are designed to identify underlying Learning Disorders, ADHD, ASD, or other educational/workplace challenges. We provide comprehensive assessments to help students and adults aged 18 years and older understand their cognitive strengths and weaknesses and how these impact their academic or workplace functioning. Recommendations are made for academic or workplace accommodations and strategies to improve functioning in these areas.
How Psychoeducational / Cognitive Assessments Work
- Initial Meeting: The process starts with a clinical interview to gather background information, understand the concerns of the student or client, and determine the specific areas of difficulty in academic or workplace functioning.
- Comprehensive Testing: Clients undergo a series of in-person tests, measures, and questionnaires that assess a wide range of cognitive functions, including intelligence, attention, memory, processing speed, reading, writing, and math. The assessment may also include a screening of emotional functioning.
- Report and Feedback: Dr. Valoo compiles a detailed report that includes diagnostic information, as well as recommendations for academic or workplace strategies and accommodations. This report is discussed in a feedback session where the individual can ask questions to ensure they fully understand their cognitive functioning.

Benefits of Psychoeducational / Cognitive Assessments
- Tailored Educational Strategies: The assessment results help tailor educational strategies that address the student’s or client’s strengths and challenges, potentially leading to improved academic or work performance and decreased school- and/or work-related stress.
- Enhanced Self-Awareness: Students and clients gain insights into their learning styles and capabilities, fostering a better understanding of how they can succeed in academic or workplace settings.
- Support for Special Needs: For students and clients, these assessments are crucial for obtaining the necessary academic accommodations at college or university or workplace accommodations to ensure they receive the support they need for successful academic achievement.
